Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and the Barbados Port Inc. are making plans for a cruise terminal project in Bridgetown, Barbados that will allow the berthing of the larger cruise ships.

This new cruise terminal will help Barbados become a hub for cruise ships in the Caribbean.
The new cruise terminal will include dedicated cruise berths, a commercial & shopping development, home port facilities, ground transportation support and cargo facilities. The expansion of the cruise terminal is expected to be complete in two phases, so that bigger ships may start disembarking passengers while construction is continuing to complete the entire project.
Barbados is 1,600 miles from Miami, Florida and 570 miles from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Because of those distances, many cruise ships do not call on Barbados but if it were to become a hub such as San Juan, it could visit more of the islands that are farther away without having to add extra travel days to a cruise itinerary.
Currently there are smaller cruise vessels that call on the Port of Barbados such as Windstar, SeaDream and SilverSea.
With an enhanced cruise terminal them more ships can visit the island and increase it’s tourism base.
